This is the mainboard—I really love the deck, though, the numbers might be off on each card by a bit, but the actual build is really close to this. I love it, and have smashed through 3 modern tournaments at my local shop with it. It’s a little expensive, but for Modern, it’s such a fun and fast deck that I wouldn’t play anything else. Feel free to ask any questions—I’ve played the deck against Martyr Proc, American Aggro, Boros Aggro, UW Tron, RG Tron, 4 Color Control, 5 Color Control, Jund Control, Zoo, Loam Aggro, Splintertwin, Storm, Affinity, and the mirror (piloted by my friend who helped my develop the deck list). I hope you all enjoy!

You said you were taking deck submissions, and this is the deck that nabbed me 4th at a local Star City Qualifiers.
It’s purpose is to basically fill the board with tokens, primarily spirits, but there are some fun combos with Champion of the Parish.
Creatures: 11
4 Champion of the Parish
4 Doomed Traveler
3 Hero of Bladehold
Planeswalkers: 4
2 Elspeth Tirel
2 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
Spells: 21
4 Gather the Townsfolk
4 Honor of the Pure
3 Intangible Virtue
4 Lingering Souls
4 Midnight Haunting
2 Oblivion Ring
Lands: 24
3 Evolving Wilds
4 Isolated Chapel
10 Plains
5 Swamp
2 Vault of the Archangel
Sideboard: 15
3 Day of Judgment
3 Ghost Quarter
3 Grafdigger’s Cage
3 Revoke Existence
3 Stony Silence
For my wishlist, I think I would actually drop two Elspeths for two more Sorins. When Elspeth does hit the board, she does an alright job of filling it with tokens, but I think I would prefer more of Sorin’s emblem to beef up my spirits.
Eleshed Titan [GW-Ramp]
I’ve been wanting to build around Elesh Norn for a while now, the problem is I didn’t really have a lot of cards for it. I decided to just theory-craft and try to build one in my head and this is what I got. I’ll go over the card selection in a bit. Just wanted to state that I’ve only been testing via tappedout.net and I don’t even own most of the cards on this list.
The basic premise of the deck is to be able to bring out an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite as early as possible. Ramping up to Elesh is the primary goal of the deck. To do this, the deck runs multiple ways to get to that magical 7 mana. (10, if trying to play around mana leak.) There are also cards available to buy time for the deck, like Day of Judgement and Oblivion Ring.
Failing the Elesh-route to victory, Primeval Titan steps in to handle the job. Searching up Kessig Wolf Run and Inkmoth Nexus becomes the alternative win-condition of the deck.
Creatures: 21
- 4 Solemn Simulacrum
- 4 Primeval Titan
- 2 Thrun, The Last Troll
- 1 Acidic Slime
- 4 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
- 4 Birds of Paradise
- 2 Llanowar Elves
The main reason for the deck’s conception was Elesh Norn. She is just extremely powerful, especially in the current meta, because of her ability to permanently neuter 2 or less toughness creatures. She has an immediate effect on the board upon resolution, and can be quite difficult to deal with. In this deck, Elesh can come out as early as turn 5 which is rather fast and can be devastating to an opponent. Backing her up are 4 Primeval Titans. I’d rather not have them in the deck, but if you’re playing green you just have to play the titans. They’re your route to an alternate win-condition and can be relevant beaters themselves. Thruns were added just to have more relevant beaters in the deck in case you’re unable to grab Elesh or the Titan. It’s also relevant to note that Thrun survives a Day of Judgment via regeneration. The single Acidic Slime is just there as a green sun’s zenith target. The 4 Birds of Paradise, 2 Llanowar Elves, and 4 Solemn Simulacrum are primarily additional ramp cards, but can become viable threats once you are able to pull out an Elesh.
Spells: 14
- 4 Rampant Growth
- 4 Green Sun Zenith
- 3 Oblivion Ring
- 3 Day of Judgement
Having access to white brings about new tools to the same playstyle. Oblivion Ring is a great answer to permanents, often supplementing the singleton Acidic Slime. Day of Judgment becomes the go-to sweeper for the deck as well. No longer relying on damage to clear the board, It’s just there to buy time until Elesh pops out of the deck. 4 Green Sun’s Zenith is there because there are just so many relevant targets for it in the deck that you just want multiples of the card. You can use it as pseudo-rampant Growth on turn 2 to GSZ for a Birds of Paradise/Llanowar Elves, Find that Thrun that you need to create board presence, destroy a land via Acidic Slime, or just GSZ for 6 and grab Primeval Titan.
Lands: 25
- 4 Razorverge Thicket
- 4 Sunpetal Grove
- 7 Forest
- 5 Plains
- 1 Mountain
- 2 Inkmoth Nexus
- 2 Kessig Wolf Run
The lands are pretty standard for a WRR deck, with the exception of leaning to Green and White instead of Green and Red. With Primeval Titan in the deck, you have access to toolboxing your Utility lands. Inkmoth Nexus and Kessig Wolf Run serve as an alternative win-condition if required. Between the Rampant Growth and Birds of paradise getting the red mana you need to activate Kessig Wolf Run isn’t difficult.
I hope you enjoyed reading this short feature. Thanks, and Happy Deckbuilding!

So this is my favorite deck that I use on Cockatrice, and definitely one I want to build and use IRL once I’m able to get all the cards in it. Got a start with some stuff I picked up at FNM, so yay!
Anyway, here’s the decklist, and then I’ll get into the goal of the deck and why I picked each card:
Creatures - 25
- 3x Armored Skaab
- 4x Avacyn’s Pilgrim
- 4x Deranged Assistant
- 3x Ghoultree
- 4x Kessig Cagebreakers
- 3x Screeching Skaab
- 4x Splinterfright
Instants - 8
- 3x Dream Twist
- 3x Forbidden Alchemy
- 2x Gnaw to the Bone
Lands - 20
- 6x Forest
- 4x Hinterland Harbor
- 2x Island
- 4x Shimmering Grotto
- 4x Woodland Cemetery
Sorceries - 7
- 2x Mulch
- 3x Spider Spawning
- 2x Unburial Rites
The goal of this deck is pretty simple: get lots of creatures into the graveyard, then cast a Splinterfright, Ghoultree, or Kessig Cagebreakers and swing your way to victory.
It’s pretty quick and I find myself having a 5/5 or higher Splinterfright pretty early on in the game. I tend not to hardcast Kessig Cagebreakers, instead bringing them back with a flashbacked Unburial Rites. Casting Ghoultree tends to be either-or.
Anyway, let’s get into why I picked each card and what it does to help the synergy of the deck.
- Deranged Assistant
- Screeching Skaab
- Armored Skaab
- Splinterfright
These four self-milling creatures are integral to the deck. Deranged Assistant provides mana as well as taking the top card off my deck and putting it in the graveyard. Screeching Skaab plays a mini-aggro role and Armored Skaab a defensive role, and both are fuel for the big beaters of the deck. Splinterfright is great because it has the benefit of milling me for two every turn and (in a best-case scenario) giving itself more power and toughness. It’s not unusual for me to have a Splinterfright that’s 9/9 or 10/10 fairly early in the game.
- Avacyn’s Pilgrim
- Shimmering Grotto
Avacyn’s Pilgrim serves two purposes in this deck. It provides mana, naturally, namely the W required to flashback Unburial Rites, and it like every other creature is fuel for Splinterfright, Ghoultree, and the Cagebreakers. Shimmering Grotto is used for mana that I may not have on the field, like the B required for various spells. It combos nicely with Deranged Assistant as well.
- Mulch
- Forbidden Alchemy
- Dream Twist
Mulch is a pretty nice card. It lets me mana fix and drop creatures and flashback spells into my graveyard for later use. Forbidden Alchemy and Dream Twist are instant-speed methods I can use to mill myself. Forbidden Alchemy is nice in that I can choose what to dump and what to put in my hand.
- Kessig Cagebreakers
- Ghoultree
- Spider Spawning
- Gnaw to the Bone
- Unburial Rites
These four cards rely on creature cards in my graveyard. Kessig Cagebreakers can make an entire army of wolves appear to smack my opponent in the face. Ghoultree’s casting cost goes down with each creature in my graveyard until it reaches a manageable level. Spider Spawning is basically a Kessig Cagebreakers without the attacking. It creates a wall of spiders to block my opponent from attacking my precious life. Gnaw to the Bone is obscene in this deck. If there’s a bunch of creatures in my graveyard, it causes my life to skyrocket - nothing to sneeze at with the possibility I have of casting it up to four times per game. Unburial Rites brings back either Kessig Cagebreakers or Ghoultree, sometimes Splinterfight if it’s called for.
So…that’s my deck. Really proud of it, it’s won me quite a few games online, hopefully many more as I keep playing. Hope you enjoyed! :D
